Overcoming a Coca-Cola addiction

Addicted to Soda and Coca Cola

A relative of mine used to drink about 2 or 3 cans of Coca Cola a day. Quite an addiction there! But not me, I was good. Several months later, and the tables had turned. I was drinking about one every two days, and then gradually it became one can per day.

At that time, my relative was completely off it and said it was gross to drink anymore. I was shocked how someone could go from being so physically addicted, to not wanting any at all.

For several months my soda addiction grew. By this time I was drinking one can of Coca Cola a day, i felt horrible and knew i was addicted. I wanted to get off it but the cravings and 'need' for the hit were too hard. I drank it with curries and chocolate, so it became a routine.

If there was no Coke within reach, I would have to substitute it for another soda, but I always wanted Coke.

My stomach was sore, it hurt my insides. Going to the toilet and also sleeping. Everything was affected by the high intake of soda. My poor teeth must have really suffered.

Then, thinking back to my relative's shocking cold turkey success of quitting the cravings altogether, i decided i had to as well. I was starting to feel sicker and sicker.

So, i went vegetarian, cut out all junk food and takeaways and mostly lived on salad. I kept my fluids up and exercised to combat my appetite.

The first few days i wanted a Coke or a soda. If there was one in sight or within driving distance, i would want one. For the first week or two i didn't have one every day, but maybe every second or third day. Hey, at least it wasn't the minimum one per day.

Since my health kick was on route and exercise and diet were going well, slowly after a few more days i didnt want a soda anymore. I was actually able to say no to one. It only took about a week to go completely off it.

About two weeks later i had a coke and only had a few sips and then decided it tasted gross so didnt finish the rest off.

Within the last few weeks i have only had about two cans worth of sips of coke all up. Very impressive effort. After each mouthful i didn't feel good and within the hour my tummy felt sore. I also punished myself in my mind telling myself how naughty i was and that this stuff tastes gross.

YES YOU CAN go from one or more cans per day, to none at all. I never believed it.

If you get your diet and exercise in order, it all falls together nicely and becomes way more easy.

For some people it really is an addiction to soda and Coca Cola. And only those who are hooked on the stuff know just how strong and impossible to beat those cravings really are.

Great Hub! Just a couple of weeks ago I decided to get off of all the caffene and sugar drinks. I decided I was going to give myself a 7 day challenge and asked my Facebook friends to do it with me for support. I'm not going to lie it was hard. I had a headache all but one day of it. I ate normally but when it came to a beverage it had to be water. Once I completed it I felt sooo much better. I couldn't believe how much my body became addicted to caffene. To avoid the major headaches I would slowly wing off of it instead of stopping all at once like I did. Hope to see more of your Hubs in the near future!

Great Hub, I quick drinking Coca Cola and all soda about one year ago to this month. For me, it was a true addiction where I would drink 2-3 20oz a day for a while and if I didn't I would get cravings and headaches. Something is wrong with a drink that does that so someone. Don't get me wrong, I loved the taste of it, but not the affect it had on me.

Have a great day.
